You may not like (or even read) his books but this book is great because he describes a lot of what is common in the creative process and it gives you a frame of reference to work inside until you’re confident enough to break out.
I guess it’s less about how to write so much as having those stories in my head that I once did; but then again, it’s a half-dozen of one and 6 of the other, too.
I recommend Stephen King’s On Writing.
