The amended version of the stupidest copyright law ever has a FAQ to clear up “misconceptions” – remains stupidest copyright law ever. The hand of RIAA/MPAA is quite clear in this. Also, Ruddock is a bastard.

OMG that is so freakin’ funny! I really have nothing to say…I’m speechless at the stupidity of it all.
I’ve been studying the affects of the Bill for the last 4 days at work. I’m the expert in how stupid it is. *cries*
I hadn’t read the FAQ before. Now that I have, I have my own questions and answers.
Can I transfer my DVD to my iPod video?
No. You can only transfer VIDEOTAPES to electronic format. You can format shift CDs to your iPod but not DVDs. The reasons for this are obvious, so don’t ask why, you idiot.
Can I make a back-up of my CDs/DVDs in case they get scratched?
No. You cannot make copies of anything for any reason. This is criminal offence and you have an on-the-spot infringement notice of $6600 even if you didn’t know that it was illegal to do so.
Do they have rules like this anywhere else in the world, where you can get in trouble without knowing that what you were doing was illegal, for copyright infringement?
No.
(I could go on, but this seems too much like work *cries again*)
haha, i was wanting to ask your opinion on it m’dear! :)
The thing that probably annoys me most (probably because I haven’t read the whole bill) is the ‘librarying’ (note to Australian government: not real word) provision, which is so brain-dead as to be unbelievable. Given that it probably applies retroactively, a lot of people could be criminals for the contents of their 1980s videotape closet. Honestly, such a mass cockup I never did see.
This is why it’s awesome to know a law student. I haven’t bothered reading through it before now because…honestly, it’s not going to change any of my digital habits in the slightest. It’s just a shame that this will pass/has passed (no idea where it’s up to in that regard) purely based on the fact that most MPs are still trying to figure out how to send an internet.
