thinking too loud

Forever Young

Forever young, forever young…
I wanna be forever young
Do you really wanna live forever?
Forever… forever…

Gah! I’ve had this song in my head for nearly 3 days straight now.

Youth is like diamonds in the summer sun
diamonds are forever

so many adventures couldn’t happen today
so many songs we forgot to play
so many dreams swinging out of the blue
left to come true

Not that it’s such a bad song, but it’s just stuck.

note: Song is Forever Young by Youth Group, an Australian band. Make sure you get the latest version, not the one that sounds like it was made in the 70s or 80s. It’s available on The OC Mix 5.

This song is great for 3 reasons:

1) I like it (official endorsement :O!!)
2) Everyone else I know, hates it
3) It’s easy to pick up the words and get them stuck in people’s minds

Had this song stuck in my head for ages, to the point where I actually bought it off iTunes. I know it was on the O.C. I don’t care. For once it’s popular music that’s popular for a reason, where that reason isn’t because Sony BMG marketed the hell out of it and flooded stores with it to artificially inflate the ARIA chart numbers for a couple of weeks.

I’ve very much come around to this song; at first, i thought “oh gods no not another whiny-moany so-called ‘indie’ song that appeals to both the 15 year old and the 45 year old,” though perhaps in not quite so many words.

but over a couple of listens (really Zhi, how can you possibly not have heard of this song? I listen to my ‘pod and hip hop/rnb radio, and even I’ve heard it) I got to liking it. It’s got this sense of nostalgia that just rises up and grabs me, even if there’s nothing nostalgic to be about, as such.

dunno, I know it’s not just me, but still feels rather strange.

Well, I haven’t watched the OC (anymore) and I don’t listen to the radio, so I suppose that precludes hearing it. Plus, I find most new music not just as you described: whiny-moany, but also rehashed or just really bad teckas…
